Musical Chairs as a Review Quiz

Posted by: ANNIE LEE GILLILAND

We all know and love musical chairs, but you can use it as a quiz game.

Game play

Set up the chairs as normal EXCEPT use two fewer chairs than students.  The two students who remain standing when the music stops must compete for their chance to stay in the competition.

Game management tips

10 – 15 minutes of game time is ideal.

Play the music for less than 1 minute of music at a time, otherwise you won’t really get a lot of questions asked.

Threaten on pain of automatic elimination against pushing while circling or fighting over a chair.  Any more than five seconds of struggle is too much for me.

What to do with the students who are eliminated:

have the first one sit and run the playing and pausing of the video. (Tell them to play the music for less than 1 minute at a time)

other eliminated students must ask the next questions. This way, you are interacting with these students, helping them ask the questions well.

eliminated students can buy their way back into the competition if neither of the two standers can answer a question
