While this song, Merci Enseignants, is mostly in Wolof, the images are great and the message is to thank teachers. This lesson focuses largely on the images from the video that accompanies the song, so students can learn about education, daily life, religion, and values through questions about the song in French. In addition, there’s a reading about students attending school, and ideas for activities beyond this song.
Who is the target audience for this lesson?
This activity can be best used with students with Novice High proficiency and above. Intermediate levels may need more rigor in the questions and activities, but the activity could still be used as a shorter warm-up or part of a greater unit on education, the importance of thanking others, World Teachers Day / Journée Mondiale des Enseignant·s (October 5), AATF National French Week (beginning of November), le Mois de la Francophonie (in March).
